The uploader Tenerife123 told me to be the author of this image. This is not correct. I am NOT the author of this image. See "file history" for details. --Gomera-b (talk) 18:41, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Indianheadpenny.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- There are two different photos here. Based on the history of the file information page, the first one comes from an "all rights reserved" site, so the image should be removed. Based on the current version of the file information, the second photo lacks a licence and sufficient proof of permission (currently it says that permission only was given for the file to be used on Wikipedia), so the second image may also have to be removed. Stefan2 (talk) 00:07, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Stefan2, Thanks for the note. I'm the original uploader of this image. So help me understand the right thing to do here. I don't own the image or have any copyright of the original overlapping coins, but it has been updated with another image. I can't seem delete the original image without deleting the update by User:DaveHinz. Gbeeker (talk) 15:55, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Photos of coins get copyright of their own, so you need to prove two things: that the coin is free (the {{Money-US}} template already does this) and that there are no unfree restrictions on the photo (if you took it yourself you can release it as e.g. {{CC-BY-SA 3.0}}). The fact that there are two completely different images there just makes the whole thing more complicated. If your image is free, an admin needs to separate it from the one uploaded by DaveHinz (not sure exactly how it works). --Stefan2 (talk) 17:57, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the reply. The image I uploaded is not free. It may be deleted. If User:DaveHinz doesn't own the other photo, then I foresee it being deleted too. In it's place, I'll try to locate a free photo of a similar coin. Happy new year! Gbeeker (talk) 19:44, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- there is a background texture to this signature which may make it copyrightable. We should have one without a background texture, which can then have {{PD-ineligible-USonly}} applies to it. Magog the Ogre (talk) 04:29, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- It is signature, therefore it is impossible to keep it as PD-text ("typefaces, individual words, slogans, or simple geometric shapes") Bulwersator (talk) 12:08, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks, but there is next problem - source is dead and IA was unable to recover it Bulwersator (talk) 20:32, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- This is in the public domain regardless of the source, so that doesn't seem to be any problem. The only problem would be if you believe that the signature might be fake, i.e. someone else's handwriting, in which case the signature isn't notable. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:41, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
