This was the first bouyon song I ever heard back in the early '90s - distinctly Dominican and different from zouk. I wrote for Beat Magazine and ended up coming to Dominica to cover the World Creole Festival back in 2000 - Kassav, Sweet Micky, Top Vice, First Serenade and WCK were the headliners. It was cool to interview some of them backstage. Thanks to Dominica Tourism for sponsoring the international press..
I was born in Alabama and raised in Brooklyn so I know how to wine. One year while at carnival in Antigua, I danced with this young man on a boat ride. That was more than 20 years ago and I can still close my eyes, smell the sea, hear this song and feel the wicked wine he put on me. LAWD! This song bang!
Uncle Vincent Bernard 1930-2018 Rest in Peace. I will miss you. May your memory be blessed uncle. Remembering the fun times when my mum, your little sister would invite you and uncle Daniel over to stay. Late summer 1983, I had bought mum this wicked tune by a band from Dominica (which Wandsworth Council have since stolen along with the wonderful photos of that fun time). I dedicate this tune to your memory, as I did when uncle Daniel, and uncle Forgarty passed. Love you and I will always keep the memory of you in my thoughts. Great and Wonderful🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲
I'm proud to have been born in the Nature Island of the Caribbean!🇩🇲 I miss the Dominican cousin! I could eat some dasheen, breadfruit, titiwi,.... all bouyon!
Funny thing about this tune which I bought for my Mum in 1993, when played at a family get together, ta particular member of my family doubted that such a brilliant tune could come out of our parents country of Dominica.🤔I was so proud when hearing it for the first time on a Pirate Station, I searched everywhere I could to buy the record, and I am so proud that I did, and I also managed to buy other recordings coming from Dominica. 🎼😁😁😁🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲
Conch Shell got me dancing, I like this one. being American when I find good music like this I give it BIG RESPECT ! and I cant leave this out. I WHINE BETTER AND BETTER LOL
I lived in the caribbean for many years and danced to WCK in the streets during carnival on many islands with my drink in my hand. We had some great times!!!
I can still remember as a youtman in sma yard, watching dem youtman doing their thing. De Brothers must have given them de greenlight, i guess. Today look at where I am watching. The amount of people they have rocked. GREAT. Never hang around people, who keep telling you how short you are. Hang out with the people that reminds you there is always room to grow.
Still my favorite band from back home. A lot of the bands now in DA don't sing, they chant. These guys played instruments, too. You see less of that nowadays as the bands just look for a front man who can ride a rhythm.
I used to take my fone in the bathroom at work at JPM, Metro Tech building, get in the handicap stall and let it rip.....go back to my desk for the next 3 hours. 😒😏🤪😂🎶
Please explain what, aside from the video makes this song a classic. I cannot recall last time it was played at a carnival or dance never mind party,How is it timeless?
Captain Malone not because you don't hear it where ever you go, dosent mean it's not being played, and it's a classic along with the other old-school soca and calypso songs smh.
If you cannot get it then we cannot explain. I'm in Yorkshire, England and this song played in party, by a Dominician DJ last month...Party MASH UP! Trust! Sweet!
I moved and now live in the boonies. The bus ride is long and slow, so my legs and butt cheeks go numb. This, is my remedy before leaving and upon returning home to keep muscles loose. It works! 🩰 🎶

Captain Malone not because you don't hear it where ever you go, dosent mean it's not being played, and it's a classic along with the other old-school soca and calypso songs smh.
Bro this song is a classic because of the beat (conch shell) and the fact that it was widely played and enjoyed on other islands .
