I was 11 when this series premiered and my parents would let us kids watch it. Just hearing this song and taking a deep breath fills me with such a longing to go back and live in that wonderful time. So happy I got to grow up in that time, but also feel such profound sadness that it’s gone.
One of the greatest theme songs ever for a great show between 2 perfectly matched characters. Cybill Shepard at her peak was right up there with Grace Kelly, or any others you could think of, what a beautiful woman.
I've heard both versions of this song. The one with the harmonica and the one with the saxophone as heard here. I prefer this one with the saxophone. It sounds much better here. It underscores the romantic feeling.
Was it Toots on the harmonica here???? Did a great job on many recordings, especially the instrumental version of the the Sesame Street theme, Velas on Quincy Jones "The Dude" album, and Leave A Tender Moment Alone with Billy Joel.
I remember going to a bar that had a projector tv, and all they showed was MTV, picked up by satellite. Sat and watched it for hours on end. The 80's were glorious.
The whole arrangement is beyond perfection..The lyrics, the musicality all testify to a magical time when songwriters were inspirational. I recall when this was released in the UK in 1980 and i also remember i had just moved house and was decorating but i downed all tools when this arrived on the radio.I could not believe what i was hearing. The sun beamed through my window and it was magical. Has the same effect on me today.
Man, The way you just described this memory is how many of us 80's fans feel while hearing this. Thanks for sharing your memory. I felt like i was there.
Love this 80s style. I smelled the parfums, saw the lights and environment at that time, and it was definitely different. Even people were different in the 80s. I wish I could back the 80s, being trapped there and never return to this time.
Yes, ABSOLUTELY!! I'd give anything to stay in the 80's unlike the toxic environment in 2024 and all over 1 man in Donald Trump of all people to get this many people on the Left worked up and it's absurd
Ikr..this show made me stay up past my bed time..as a kid ..7 or 8 at da time..limos, palm trees, benz's sexy women all made me wanna move to LA as kid..im 44 now ..mad memories
Moonlighting 85-89 the same as the greatest era of my life.85 the heart of it but 87 awesome and 89 the pinnacle.Cool voice by Al love it seems like it was yesterday dam time getting old suxs hard to believe flawless would have said no way the 80s are coming into it's 40s gosh scary yikes i could go on to be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s
Great era, great decade, some wonderful programmes such as this and Miami Vice, superb performer Al Jarreau, much better than today all round. I miss the '80's
This version of the theme was introduced during season 4 and was used until the show was cancelled in season 5. This video has footage from seasons 1-4 with some coming from the pilot. Rest in Peace Al Jarreau rest in peace.
I knew Bruce was a star from the moment I saw him in this, but Cybill..she literally took my breath away. I never saw a woman look so sophisticated before or since.
Moonlighting is an American comedy drama television series that aired on ABC from March 3, 1985, to May 14, 1989. The network aired a total of 67 episodes. Starring Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis as private detectives. The show was a mixture of drama, comedy, mystery, and romance, and was considered to be one of the first successful and influential examples of comedy drama, or "dramedy", emerging as a distinct television genre. The show's theme song was co-written and performed by jazz singer Al Jarreau and became a hit. The show is also credited with making Willis a star and relaunching Shepherd's career after a string of lackluster projects
LYRICS (YEAR 1987): Some walk by night Some fly by day Nothing could change you Set and sure of the way Charming and bright Laughing and gay I'm just a stranger Love the Blues and the Braves There is the sun and moon They sing their own sweet tune Watch them when dawn is due Sharing one space Some walk by night Some fly by day Something is sweeter When you meet 'long the way We'll walk by night We'll fly by day Moonlighting strangers Who just met on the way We'll walk by night We'll fly by day Moonlighting strangers Who just met on the way Who just met on the way Who just met on the way
I’m watching Moonlighting on Hulu 7/24/24 Cybill Shepherd, 73, uses a cane now she rear appearance she was walking her dogs in Los Angeles... she admitted she had a crush on Moonlighting co-star Bruce Willis. She was alone by a long yard.
The show was noticed by the lovely music of Al but It was stupid comedy the show but the 80s showed how they still used telephones instead of mobiles then. Great times in the 70s & 80s. Al has now passed away and the other 2 are unrecognisable now.
"I'm just a stranger, love the St. Louis hockey team and the Atlanta baseball team." I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what he did mean!
I want to go back to the 80s and live there forever
Me too!! Greatest Decade in History!!❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤😂

Oh yes im agree with you. The best version is the one with saxophone❤
I've been seriously and desperately seeking the Saxophone version...
It's the one I grew up with.
@@henrymanuel8246 Well, seek no more. Here it is.
Was it Toots on the harmonica here???? Did a great job on many recordings, especially the instrumental version of the the Sesame Street theme, Velas on Quincy Jones "The Dude" album, and Leave A Tender Moment Alone with Billy Joel.
SO much more prefer the saxophone version.
This is proof the true version has the saxophone.
great movies, great sing, great singer. i miss that time when i was a kid and watched the series. moonlighting, remington steele with pierce brosnan.
One of the best shows in the 80s. My mom loved this song & show
Auch wenn man normalerweise nicht auf jazz steht bei Al ändert sich die Meinung auf jeden Fall ❤❤❤
Al's voice makes a heart feel like warm honey... 🥰
I remember going to a bar that had a projector tv, and all they showed was MTV, picked up by satellite.

The 80's were glorious.
I watched Moonlighting! Back in the day we had great shows like Dynasty, Dr. Quinn, Early Edition, Quincy. Trapper John.
God i miss the 80's,i watched this show as a kid,it made me want to be a P.I. So i became on.Gotta love Al Jarreau,R.I.P
My first Al Jarreau song...became a big fan...amazing singer...Al RIP!
An awesome song about two beautiful people, on an incredible show during the best damn decade we ever had!
Al sporting the look of the day! Still sharp looking.

Lee Holdridge and AL Jarreau in the description.
1980 would have been 5 years before the show even premiered. Are you sure about the year?

From the Al Jarreau era, and I’m proud of it!🗽👑🏆
Another cool show from the 80's. The great Al Jarreau. I miss the 80's.
I've loved them all but Al Jarreau was the greatest male singer ever. Don't EVEN start arguing with me. Zip it.
This version of the theme was introduced during season 4 and was used until the show was cancelled in season 5. This video has footage from seasons 1-4 with some coming from the pilot. Rest in Peace Al Jarreau rest in peace.
It was more updated
Great show, awesome intro. I'm so proud of those days, when we enjoyed life together...
Good times
I knew Bruce was a star from the moment I saw him in this, but Cybill..she literally took my breath away. I never saw a woman look so sophisticated before or since.
I used to love this song as intro, which made me love sitcoms and soundtracks ❤❤❤
‘85-‘90 was the sweet spot of life
Yep

It was on Sunday nights🌙..moonlighting 📺 . .school the following day / Monday morning 🌄...what beautiful 80's😢😢🎉
I have to correct you. It was on ABC Tuesdays at 9pm. It may have been changed later but originally it was Tuesdays
@@chacowing that’s correct it was on during the week. That’s just not a show that would’ve worked on a Sunday for its viewing demographics.
@nativedan maybe for the audience wise
Al jarreau ...deep in my heart...whit love from.argentina

Love this song. Love watching the reruns. Love the nostalgic feeling I get listening to this song. It almost hurts ❤
Moonlighting and Northern Exposure are the 2 favorite shows of my lifetime. Excellently written and acted. TV at its finest.
Both shows went before their time.
Perfection!
Yes !
We only had one local channel and this show was not on it. That's when you resigned to watch on channel or rent a movie.
I love it. My favorite TV theme song ever. RIP, Al Jarreau.
I used to watch thia video around 2006/2007...
And I still remember on cue, parts of this video
RIP AL!!!😢 THE 80.😢🎉❤
LYRICS (YEAR 1987):
Some walk by night
Some fly by day
Nothing could change you
Set and sure of the way
Charming and bright
Laughing and gay
I'm just a stranger
Love the Blues and the Braves
There is the sun and moon
They sing their own sweet tune
Watch them when dawn is due
Sharing one space
Some walk by night
Some fly by day
Something is sweeter
When you meet 'long the way
We'll walk by night
We'll fly by day
Moonlighting strangers
Who just met on the way
We'll walk by night
We'll fly by day
Moonlighting strangers
Who just met on the way
Who just met on the way
Who just met on the way

Love those shots of mid ‘80s L.A. Im from Los Angeles and remember this show well!
RIP Al and sad for Bruce. 😢 🙏
The show was noticed by the lovely music of Al but It was stupid comedy the show but the 80s showed how they still used telephones instead of mobiles then.
Great times in the 70s & 80s.
Al has now passed away and the other 2 are unrecognisable now.
Written by the late Al Jarreau. He regretted not having the 2nd version on his album L is for Lovers. Produced by Nile Rodgers.
RIP Al Jarreau.
Al Jarreau was a Jazz singer at heart. Did not want to be a mega pop star.
Nile was the EP, he was the one who decided to not put it on the album.
