| @14nigward69 I know that it wasn't meant for me, I'm not a fan of Steins;Gate, Neon Genesis or Bakemonogatari but they most certainly doesn't deserve a 1. :) I understand where you're coming from regarding Shinji, but characters who remain flawed in the same fashion throughout the course of the serious come of as very annoying to me because their characterization is very stagnant in that case. I like deeply flawed characters if their flaws are given strong interesting development throughout the course of the series, like Edward Elric, my #1 character (he used to be in your favourites too, so you know very well). I would actually like Shinji if he actually got strong development like Edward, but he never did. :/ |

| Way too many characters from the same shows @14nigward69 Well I said that I can see where you're coming from, I can see why some people may relate to him but my issue wasn't that Shinji didn't do any amazing badass stuff, my issue was rather that he got zero development throughout the course of the series & remained flawed in the very same fashion throughout the entire series, in the very same way he used to run away from his problems & hardships. Flaws do make a character interesting but not if the flaw remains the very same way throughout the entire series, then it gets really repetitive & annoying IMO. Part of what makes a character interesting is how the character develops through his/her flaws, which is why good character development is consisdered by many to be a metric of good characterization. With Shinji, it was totally missing, he remained the same escapist boy throughout the series who continued to run away from his problems, this very same flaw in his character was depicted the very same way throughout the show, which is why his characterization as a whole came off as very stagnant & uninteresting. But that's just my way of looking at things & assessing Shinji's character & it's entirely possible that someone else (like you) could see this differently & assess his character from a different perspective & I respect those different PoV & opinions. :) |
